Technological Transformation

Ayşe Ada AKCA ‣
Transformation has happened very fast and in a spontaneous way. Even our communities were not able to fully realize how great its impact would be. Today, we experience transformation mainly as a result of widespread technological development and usage. However, transformation is not a new concept. It has existed since the first human beings. Throughout history, humanity has gone through many major transformations such as the Industrial Revolution, the Reform Movement, and the French Revolution. These examples clearly show that transformation is not only related to technology or artificial intelligence; it is a natural part of the human cycle.
In recent years, technological transformation has had a significant impact on public relations and social life. Our communities have become more isolated and passive. People tend to believe every piece of information they encounter online, especially on social media. A large number of individuals have become addicted to technology. When people meet outside, instead of communicating face to face, they are more likely to scroll through social media. As societies, we often accept ideas without questioning their accuracy or discussing their advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, many people rely on social media influencers whom they have never met in real life. As a result, online communication is often preferred over face to face interaction.
Another important effect of transformation can be seen in education. Technological development has made education more accessible and has contributed to achieving SDG
4: Quality Education. During the Covid 19 pandemic, technology helped provide free, equal, and accessible education for many people. However, the increased use of artificial intelligence has also caused some negative effects. Students may become less productive, and schoolwork can turn monotonous. For this reason, some schools have taken precautions to prevent cheating.
Finally, although technological transformation may seem out of our control, young people still have an important role to play. We can take initiative, raise public awareness, and encourage our communities. By promoting digital literacy and teaching people to use technology as a supportive tool rather than a replacement, we can turn this transformation into an advantage through collaboration and responsibility.
