Being a Student in a
Transforming Education System
Güney Ecem KARAHAN ‣
The education system has undergone transformations throughout history, influenced by developments in every era. With technology becoming central to our lives, the understanding of education has also taken on a different structure. As a student, being at the very heart of this transformation has directly impacted my relationship with education and my perspective on learning. Today, education is no longer limited to what the teacher says in the classroom. Thanks to digital course content, online platforms, and various educational resources, the learning process has become more individualized. We now bear more responsibility for our own learning. Researching, reviewing, and continuing to learn what we don’ t understand largely depends on the student’ s own effort. This has made me more organized and able to manage my own learning process. However, this transformation in education has not always been easy.
The shift to remote teaching has created a significant change in the understanding of education. Spending long hours in front of a screen can lead to distraction and the lack of face-to-face interaction is felt. Furthermore, the fact that not everyone has the same opportunities has led me to reflect on the issue of equal opportunity in education. This has made me realize that education is not just an individual matter, but also a societal one. In conclusion, education has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, and this has directly affected students. While this change has challenged me at times, it has also contributed to me becoming a more responsible, conscious, and aware student.
In my opinion, the important thing is to view this transformation not as a problem, but as an opportunity for self-improvement because surviving within a transforming education system is only possible with students who can adapt to that transformation.
