Change has always been a basic feature of human history, but nowadays, technological inventions are making the process faster than ever before. Artificial Intelligence( AI) lies in the core of these changes we are witnessing. It is changing the ways we learn, work and communicate. While AI has great potential, it also poses risks that need to be addressed immediately.
Educators say that AI has completely changed the game. Besides helping students to learn languages, AI offers them personalized learning solutions and access to information which AI can do instantly. On the other hand, this kind of help is a double-edged sword. Due to overdependence, critical thinking skills may be weakened when students use these systems. However, learning is a process and AI should be a tool to help students empower themselves rather than a way to avoid work. Outside schools, change also has a negative aspect. Now we have to deal with the emergence of deepfakes, internet fraud, and deceitful content.
On top of that, the art community is fighting over the issue of how AI companies are training their new artworks without their permission. Most importantly, the general impact of AI on society is something we cannot overlook. When people fall into the habit of spending more time communicating with machines, they may start losing real human interaction and emotional skills. AI is capable of imitating speech but it cannot produce the depth of a human character. The changes brought about by technology should be to the advantage of people, and that would require us to act wisely. To the extent that these frameworks are capable of safeguarding human rights and freedoms, we can say they are good enough.
Although technology is an extremely useful servant, if it runs your life, it is the most dangerous master. To sum up, in the end, it is the very human decisions that result in either good or bad uses of AI. The world can be changed for the better, only if we behave mindfully, ethically, and with the humans being at the very centre of our focus.
