Introduction: Mr. Ziegler is a philosopher and psychodrama trainer who has spent years studying human creativity. In this interview, he offers his thoughts on how AI is changing our understanding of creative processes.
Tuğra Osmanlı: Good morning, Mr. Ziegler. Today, our topic is creativity and spontaneity. Are they related?
Mr. Ziegler: Well, spontaneity and creativity are closely related, of course, but in which way? I would say spontaneity is what powers creativity. It is the energy you need in order to create anything. Without spontaneity, you just sit there thinking, but nothing really happens. Let’ s say something suddenly breaks in your house, and water starts running everywhere. At that moment, what do you do? You have to think and act very fast.
Tuğra Osmanlı: So, do spontaneity and creativity always appear together?
Mr. Ziegler: Yes, especially in emergency situations, accidents— anything unexpected. You have to act. And what makes you act is spontaneity. It’ s like a sudden energy that moves you. Creativity then helps you organize your experiences and information to cope with the situation.
Tuğra Osmanlı: Do you think artificial intelligence affects creativity and spontaneity?
Mr. Ziegler: I would say AI itself doesn’ t have spontaneity or true creativity. It processes information, but it does not think or feel like humans. However, it definitely affects human creativity. AI is only a tool. We must use it carefully. For example, a student lets AI write a 300-word essay. That student does not think or act. How can this student’ s creativity improve? There is no action.
Tuğra Osmanlı: I see. It is said that artificial intelligence does not weaken creativity but transforms it. What do you think about that?
Mr. Ziegler: Yes, this stands as an important point. As we all know, AI is just a tool. It does not create itself, but it can change how creativity works. In the past, creativity meant making something completely from scratch. Today, you can improve your creativity by using information gathered by artificial intelligence, questioning it, modifying it, and shaping it
