Nowadays, technology is a part of our daily lives, and people are inventing new technologies every year. However, I want to talk about brain implants. Brain implants are one of the most life-changing inventions because of the advantages they offer. First of all, brain implants can be used for human-machine connections, which means we can control electronic devices with our brain waves. They also give us more power due to the control they provide. For now, brain implants are more commonly used to treat disabilities such as autism, blindness, deafness, and colorblindness. While their primary purpose is human-machine interaction, in the future, brain implants may enable human-to-human connections.
Brain implants typically use 64 wires, each as thin as 1 / 10 of a human hair. These 64 wires collectively contain 1,024 different electrodes. The wires are usually made of materials like tungsten, silicon, platinum, iridium, and even stainless steel. The chip connected to these wires sends signals to devices that analyze the signals and convert them into commands, such as pressing a key on a keyboard. The first human brain implant was introduced in early 2024. The person who received the implant could use a computer with just their thoughts.
The biggest investments in this technology come from Neuralink, a company founded by Elon Musk and a team of neurologists. Neuralink was established on July 21, 2016. Elon Musk has also stated that brain implants are being developed to prepare for a potential rise in artificial intelligence that surpasses human capabilities.
