Ronya & Sarya AKINCI
Ronya & Sarya: Hello Sinan Apaydın, we are twin sisters Ronya and Sarya and we are 11th grade students at TED Diyarbakır College. Today, we would like to talk to you about the importance of innovation based on Steve Jobs’ quote,“ Innovation separates the leader from the follower.” First of all, can we get to know you briefly?
84
Sinan APAYDIN: I work in the Neurosurgery Department at Karabük University and hold a PhD in Medical Pharmacology. In 2023, I received a TÜBİTAK scholarship and spent a year as a clinical fellow in Neurosurgery at Duke University. In 2023, I was named Turkey’ s most successful young academic in medical innovation by JCI’ s TOYP program and was ranked the first in the TOYP World competition in the same category.
Ronya & Sarya: So let’ s start with our first question. What new technologies or innovations do you think will significantly impact our future?
Sinan APAYDIN: One of the developments that excites me the most recently is artificial intelligence. In the coming years, we will use( AI) in almost every aspect of our work. Tasks that currently take us hours to complete will be handled much faster with the help of AI. I also believe wearable technologies, especially in healthcare, will be used extensively. I think they will play a crucial role in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring patients.
Ronya & Sarya: What role do you think innovation plays in improving healthcare and medicine? Are there any recent breakthroughs that stand out for you?
Sinan APAYDIN: I believe technological advancements play a significant role in healthcare. Every day, we are finding more ways to take advantage of healthcare technologies. I’ m especially excited about surgeries performed with the Da Vinci robotic system and neuronavigation systems recently.
Ronya & Sarya: Finally, how can young people and students contribute to future innovation?
Sinan APAYDIN: Unfortunately, it’ s impossible to keep up with the pace of technological advancements nowadays. I particularly advise my younger student friends to stay updated on the latest developments in their areas of interest. I believe they should first identify the problems in their field of interest and then work on developing solutions to these problems.
Ronya & Sarya: Thank you for this delightful conversation!
