Technological inventions are at the forefront of human endeavour. Development of technology improves the quality of life for some people. On the other hand, it also leads to loss of some job fields. Moreover, usage of technology has reached what can be described as a tipping point recently as we may have started down a path where it is impossible to find our way back.
Elon Musk’ s company, Tesla, is now planning to make some humanoid robots available by other companies by 2026. They were first announced on the AI Day of 2021 in the name of Tesla Bot and the first prototype was unveiled at AI Day of 2022. Then the name turned to Optimus Gen 2 which was first featured in Tesla’ s“ We, Robot” event on 10th October, 2024. The production aim of them is to help people with difficult chores and take the duty of dangerous jobs from the shoulders of people. They can babysit children when the parents are working, look after disabled people, and work as an employee in a company.
The advantages of Optimus vary from field to field. However, it can lead to a high percentage of job loss in the working class which could potentially lead to widespread poverty. Also, it’ s controversial regarding their safety and reliability. Complications in robot systems can cause incidents which can be fatal for some people. In addition, they can’ t look after disabled people or children properly because of lack of emotional intelligence.
To sum up, innovations have always been changing the world and will continue to change it. The developments in technology will improve the quality of life for some people while taking over the jobs of the working class which can lead to poverty for them. Optimus is a sensational invention such as other type of innovations which were engraved in history with golden letters. The only question which remains is whether the risk is worth the reward.
