Innovations that Excite Us

Miray Sevim ÇELİK

To be honest, I can’ t say that I’ m not excited about the innovations that will happen in the future. In fact, I’ m quite excited about them.
New technologies, infrastructures, inventions, systems, and groundbreaking innovations— good or bad— will deeply affect our world and humanity. Some of them may even change the course and balance of the world. Who knows? Perhaps the systems and ideas we currently think won’ t achieve anything or contribute in any way may, over time, change people’ s perspectives and, most importantly, the world we all share.
As a matter of fact, we see that the science fiction movies our parents watched in the past are coming true today. To give the simplest example: in the 80s, video calling was seen in science fiction movies, but now this opportunity is available to everyone.
Recently, we’ ve started creating 3D objects with 3D printers using artificial intelligence, and this is no longer a difficult thing to do with current technology. One of the most exciting developments, in my opinion, is the ability of cars to travel without drivers. If the necessary infrastructures are created for this, they could offer safer and more comfortable journeys in the future.
We can see that renewable energy has been used more in recent years. However, fossil fuels are still excessively used. For example, coal, oil, and natural gas. These fossil fuels are dangerous not only to our world but also to our lives and other living beings. For instance, many animals that rely on cold areas, such as the North and South Poles, are facing challenges. Although these harmful fuels don’ t seem to cause much harm to us at the moment, they pose a grave danger to creatures living in those poles. It is a harsh reality that the poles are melting, and the creatures there are struggling to survive under increasingly hot weather conditions. For this reason, some scientists argue that using renewable energy sources is more beneficial and sustainable for humanity and the world. There are many renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, and I’ m sure that if we rely more on them, our world can become a better place over time.
In my opinion, a bright future awaits the young people and students of the new generation— a future full of technology. Our elders, and later our youth, will lay the foundations for this bright future. I believe that young people of this new generation have the capacity to impact the world on a massive scale. For example, flying cars are an impressive idea that was talked about even 100 years ago. When we were kids, many of our dreams revolved around flying cars and similar innovations. I am absolutely sure that in the future, today’ s youth will turn these childhood dreams into reality and make great contributions to society.
All these developments will definitely come with harmful and dangerous effects. For example, I am sure that people and scientists following these developments are uneasy about artificial intelligence surpassing humans and acting autonomously— just like in the Terminator movie series. However, I am confident that our scientists will take precautions to address such concerns.
I hope that advanced technology and inventions will serve the benefit, peace, tranquility, and security of humanity.
