Monochrome Mind

Yılmaz Çağan BİLGİN

“ Ideas are like the sea . If you want to think of small ideas , you can stay in the shallow water . But if you want to think of the big ideas , you ’ ve got to go deeper .”
Overcoming physical obstacles is easier than overcoming intellectual obstacles . Although this statement can be a radical sentence , some examples from history can be given .
First of all , have you ever wondered why most statues are white ? In fact , these sculptures were colorful when they were first made . However , since these sculptures are 2000 years old , their colors gradually disappeared . That ’ s why , people and modern sculptors have always thought these sculptures were monochrome . The perception of modern sculptors that “ Our ancestors made white sculptures , so let ’ s make white sculptures ” proves that fear of change and mental taboos are in human nature .
Secondly , this example can be regarded as being similar to our country ’ s education . While the world is changing , the education system that has been operating for decades has not changed at all . Some people hid from change and continued to apply old methods to new generations . That ’ s why , it ’ s hard for students to reveal their talents , just like in sculptures .
In a nutshell , we can gain experience by taking risks in a world of barriers . Obstacles can hurt sometimes , but the most beautiful songs and the most beautiful poems are born from these pains . Instead of hiding from different colors , we can mix them and invent new colors .
