While the concept of digital citizenship enables us to step into the digital world safely , it also aims to protect us from its harmful effects . Today , technology , which is developing rapidly and enabling us to step into the new era , also plays an important role in social media . Social media , which is a candidate to be one of the most important concepts of the age , is a platform where individuals frequently use and spend time . So how can we train and teach people , especially children , to participate safely , effectively , critically and responsibly in the world of social media full of digital technologies ?
First of all , we can start with the definition of the Internet concept . What is the Internet , when is it used , on which platforms and for what purpose ? How to reach the most accurate information and process safely ? The answers to these questions should be conveyed to the individual in the most reliable and objective way . The use that does not go beyond its purpose gives the individual knowledge and awareness . It allows them to feel more secure , knowledgeable and comfortable in the digital environment , and at the same time to see the dangers of the misuse of social media . media effectively and correctly , we will gain more efficiency from this environment that allows freedom of expression by increasing our communication power as well as having a pleasant time . In order to benefit from these features , it is necessary to be an exemplary digital citizen .
Finally , one of the most important characteristics of an exemplary digital citizen is a strong sense of empathy . Empathy is understanding the situation of the other person by putting yourself in the place of the person in front of you according to the situation and environment . Having empathy in the digital environment also protects ourselves and others from negativities by preventing miscommunication .
Besides , an individual who cannot use social media properly often has security , privacy and compliance problems . He cannot express himself correctly on digital platforms and his psychology is also affected in this direction . Social media is also used not only to have a good time , but also to have information and communicate with people . Misuse of the individual can make him dependent on technology and social media .
