Could Artificial Intelligence Really be “ Self-Aware ?”

Many people give all types of cliché examples when it comes to Artificial Intelligence ( AI ). They think of the terminator trying to take over the world , combat robots that have become selfaware seeking to kill humans , or a supreme being with god-like brain power that is trying to end the human race . These all are a result of science fiction and people trying to interpret things that they barely know anything about . But when you learn about the implications of AI and how it is used in the real world , you start to understand that these kinds of scenarios are usually far-fetched .
We use AI in our day-to-day lives even though we might not be aware . The simplest example being the algorithms that recommend personalized ads when we are browsing the Internet . The AI is trained on data sets beforehand to be able to recommend the relevant ads to the users . In most cases , the AI programs that you know or interact with in your daily life use mathematical predictions or neural networks to process your user data and give you a “ better ” experience . Essentially , all an AI is doing is predicting the output value of a given input with simple or complex algorithms . The “ selfaware ” AI robots that have recently been booming also use these simple methods , but they are way more efficient and have much more valuable data to train from and they also have extremely complex neural networks that work on powerful software .
I believe that with the advances in computers and AI , we could be able to create an AI that is far more “ self-aware ” that we currently have and is almost human-like . But will it really be self-aware ?
