A Christmas Eve Story onur Ege GöKÇE
Thomas is an old , affectionate man who lives in a homey , picturesque and enchanting maple house atop the mountains . He likes it there ; quiet , lively , and unspoiled by humankind . There isn ’ t much furniture in his house . Just a short , white fridge , a rather old stove , a grand leather sofa , a palm table , a sturdy wooden chair , and a comfy wooden bed with a blue sheet over it . He takes pleasure in reading books , cooking and the occasional visits from his family . He was sitting on his couch when he saw his son appear right in front of him . “ Right ” he said . He remembered The Hologram was an appliance his son gave him as a present last Christmas . He closed his book , looked at The Hologram and said :
“ Look who it is ” in a joyful manner . “ Howdy , dad ?” his son responded .
Dad replied : I understand … will you come next Christmas ?” Thomas asked .
“ I ’ ll try to !” James promised .
“ I ’ ll be waiting for you . I ’ ll prepare a Blueberry Tart , maybe some Fondue 1 as well and …” Tom said . He could think of a million different things he could do for his dear son .
“ I must head out now , see ya soon dad ! I love you !” James waved goodbye , his eyes sparkling with nostalgia .
The Hologram closed . He recalled the times when James wasn ’ t so busy , the times where the whole family would gather in his house , the days where they laughed together … The times when his son was still alive , the times where he was more than just The Hologram …
“ I ’ m doin ’ great James . I wasn ’ t expecting you though … I didn ’ t prepare anything .” Thomas admitted longingly .
“ It ’ s okay dad , I just wanted to see you …” his son murmured in a solacing tone .
Thomas smiled broadly , a tear rolling down his face . “ Where have you been ? I ’ ve … missed you .”
“ Work has been overwhelming , I ’ m sorry . The best I could do was call you from here .” James said .
