THE LATEST GRADUATES of the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program at Michigan Avenue Elementary School pose for a celebratory photo at their graduation ceremony. Last semester, the
School Resource Officer and DARE instructor Aubrey Rominger led three fifth-grade classes through the program, which tries to teach children how to avoid falling prey to the temptations of illegal drug use,
tobacco use and alcohol consumption. Students received certificates and celebrated with special guests like characters Eddie the Eagle and Daren the Lion.
WHILE LEARNING the importance of helping those less fortunate, students in April Koger’s kindergarten class at Taylor Elementary School collected items to fill a box for Operation Christmas Child during the holidays.
