ENVIRONMENTAL

PROBLEMS AS A LACK OF EDUCATION

Environmental issues can be reduced with a good education in

ecology. Since the school is the training reference for people,

teachers have theresponsibility for teaching people about consequences

of their costumes and how to avoid it. For instance, loss of biodiversity due pollution and climate change. However, it is parents’ responsibility to teach them too, because children and teenager’s habits come from their home and could be more difficult to practice good habits if they do not find coherence between school and home. Therefore, consider the harmful effects of a deficient education in how to save the environment hason the planet.

Educating how to save water can have a big impact on conserving water. Since

water is running out, life is running out and the main cause is waste water and

climate change. For instance, people in the Guajira lacks potable water due

intense summer and charcoal. As a result, children and adults die. Then, children

must learn how economize water. For example, teaching children to close taps

while they brush their teeth and take shower. Nevertheless, adults must

contribute recycling water of washing machine and using it for toilets.

Energy resources are limited, then energy conservation is important. Since most

of energy sources cannot renewed, energy saved is energy generated. For

instance, petrol and diesel are not renewable energy, then we need to educate

about the better utilization of existing resources as using common transport

or bicycle, washing with cold water, sharing positions in the car, taking shower

with cold water, unplugging the TV and chargers and turn off lights when it is

not in use. However, thinking in renewable energy is possible when people learn

and teach how to select wastes.

Overpopulation ends with natural resources. Inasmuch as overpopulation is

synonymous of overexploitation, renewable resources will be limited.

For instance, activities like hunting, fishing and farming contribute to

extinction of many species due they do not have enough time for

reproducing. In addition, degradation of environment is another

consequence because of deforestation for building new houses, industries

and increase in amount of CO2. Therefore, the first measure is educate

people for having one or two children at the most and making people

aware of family planning with contraceptives methods.

In conclusion, environmental education teaches to understand the

environment, the causes and effects about our behaviors and allows be

aware that people must engage in solving a problem and that is

responsibility of adults to teach children and practicing all time.
