Julia Day I started decorating cookies in late 2012. I have always loved baking and decorating and when I discovered cookie decorating and the possibilities for creative expression, I was hooked. I started Miss Biscuit and gradually took on more and more orders.
I resigned from my day job as a speech pathologist to concentrate full time on the business. I now teach decorating classes from my studio and shop, based in Seddon, VIC.
I’ m not one much for Christmas traditions and am generally always happy to take Christmas as it comes, particularly since starting this business. Christmas is by far my busiest time of year and I often hit Christmas eve in a panic about presents and Christmas baking.
But I do have one particular tradition that my two growing children are starting to groan about.
Ever since my daughter was born, we have had a Santa photo taken at Myer. It started really as a bit of fun to stretch them out when Christmas shopping. However after about 6-7 years I started to put them up on the wall on Christmas time and realized that we had captured both children in the same position at the same time each year.
It has become a really lovely way to see their growth and changes. I now need to drag them to Myer each year, particularly my son, with all sorts of promises and bribes to get my Santa photo. I suspect I won’ t have too many years left however I will stretch it out for as long as I possibly can.
