AP Studio Artist Gallery

Studio Art is the most prestigious art class available at Providence Day. In order to take AP Studio you must take Art 1, 2, and 3. This class gives students the independence to make their own decisions in regards to their artistic direction. At some point within the year, students choose their concentration, a series of similar works banded under a common theme.

AP Studio students are required to submit one of three different options for an AP Portfolio. The three types are 3-D Design portfolio, 2-D Design portfolio and Drawing portfolio. Each are comprised of 24 pieces; 12 concentration, 12 breadth and 6 quality. Breadth allows for pieces unrelated to your concentration to be submitted. Quality makes you choose your best and physically send the works to the AP board.

Throughout the year, each student keeps a journal that documents their artistic process, allowing the AP critic to understand. All types of art are welcomed, the community ranges from painting and photography to as far as splattering. Richard Dewey, the teacher, describes the class as “a unique course that enables students to explore their creative potential while working independently.“
