Setting the stage for
continued success
As 2019
draws to a
close and we
begin planning
for 2020, the
Charbonneau
Arts Associa-
HOEM tion has much
to be grateful
for and sees an
even better year ahead. I am es-
pecially appreciative of all the
dedicated volunteers who are
stepping forward to make our
fundraising efforts successful.
Going forward, there are a num-
ber of positive developments to
report.
Award Reception
First, I want to extend an invita-
tion to each of you to attend our
Award Reception on Sunday, Jan.
12, from 2-4 p.m. The main purpose
will be presenting our annual dona-
tion to each of the high school art
programs that our nonprofit fund-
raising supports. This will be a cof-
fee, tea, and light hors d’oeuvres af-
fair with live music provided by pia-
nist Marilyn Anderson.
I will also take this occasion to
provide a brief annual report and in-
troduce the officers of the Charbon-
neau Arts Association Board of Di-
rectors for 2020.
New grant received
In 2019, we were successful in re-
ceiving two very important grants
that will have a very positive im-
pact on the quality of our annual
art festival.
From the City of Wilsonville, as I
have previously reported, we re-
ceived grant money to purchase a
new set of art display panels for our
gallery. Although it was a tight

schedule, we were able to get
them in time for use in November’s
festival and we received very
positive feedback about the definite
upgrade this meant for our arts
festival.
Later in November, we learned
that we had been successful with a
second grant request, this time
with the Clackamas County Arts
Coalition, which is a regional agen-
cy that oversees distribution of
funds from the Oregon Cultural
Trust. This grant will help us pur-
chase additional art display panels
so that the presentation of student

art in our festival can be upgraded
as well.
New members of our board of
directors
For 2020, the board of directors is
welcoming two new members: Rick
Cady and Cathi McLain. Rick and
Cathi both contributed much to the
planning and the operation of our
2019 festival. I was pleased to high-
light their efforts in December and
am very happy that they have
agreed to assist our organization at
the board level.
In addition to his work as a prac-
ticing artist (freelance photography
and jewelry making), Rick brings
experience as a director of nonprof-
it organizations. As a volunteer
with us, Rick managed the pack-
aged art sales in this year’s festival.
Cathi McLain is a watercolorist
and brings us the experiences of a
career in marketing and public re-
lations. Since retirement and set-
tling in Charbonneau, Cathi has be-
come an avid golfer and served on
the board and then as president of
CWGA. With us this year, Cathi
provided important assistance to
our communications committee.
