THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 5 February 2020 Civic Affairs By WAYNE RICHARDS Keep Charbonneau a unique, beautiful community There is no other place in Oregon like Charbonneau. We have an un- paralleled quali- ty of life with beautiful tree- RICHARDS lined streets, swimming pools (admittedly sometimes for the grandkids), quality maintenance and the treasure of three quality golf courses. We are surrounded by verdant and productive farm- land and it’s protected for us. We have a board that cares, and man- agement that’s experienced and creative. We want to protect our quality of life, property values and our health and safety. Be- cause of this, we have asked for a seat at the table when anything is going to affect these things. If the Oregon Aviation Board and the Aurora Airport would have in- cluded us in their decision making in the beginning of the process, and abide by well-established Oregon Land Use Goals, we would be hav- ing a different discussion. Because those land use rules re- quire state agency consultations, we would know what the airport is going to do about increased traffic density, pollution, (noise, air, and waste) and the protection of our treasured exclusive farm use land and we could decide together. The process has been ignored and we have not been included in the decisions. These are issues that the board and community will be con- sidering as the process moves for- ward. We all share the same goal. Keep Charbonneau unique and beautiful.
