20 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER
February 2020
The Niners
By KATHY HARTLAUB
Onward to a new
golf season
The Niner’s
Board meeting
was held Jan. 10.
It was welcomed
by many enthusi-
astic and inter-
ested members.
The meetings are
HARTLAUB
open and we en-
courage participation. Our next
meeting will be Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. in
the clubhouse.
We are anxiously preparing for our
April 7 opening day. Exciting plans
await, introducing new members and
welcoming all returnees.
Well, here we are, thinking about a
new golf season. Are the clubs dusted
off? Taking golf lessons? Practicing at
the range? Getting in shape? It’s hard
to think of that during the dark, rainy
days of winter, but before you know it,
we’ll be out on the links having a

at the Oregon Convention Center. Our
volunteers help to staff the booth, dis-
tribute passes for a free round of golf,
and have a great time building aware-
ness for Charbonneau Golf Club.
Winter luncheons
If you’re in town, be sure to join us
for our upcoming informal winter lun-
cheons at The Turn Feb. 20 and March
19. Details for all will be sent via email.
Registration for CWGA and
activation in the new GHIN system

email, but it’s always handy to see re-
minders as some emails may be

great time, and the dreariness will be
a distant memory.
There has been golf activity in the
halls of the Charbonneau clubhouse.
In the last newsletter, new rules were
presented, and in the time since sever-
al members attended a Jan. 2 tutorial
on Golf Genius presented by men’s
club members Bill Moir and Joe
Fieweger. This system is now manda-
tory for GHIN scoring. The two-and-a-
half-hour session had attendees col-
laborating from the Niners and the
missed. We will continue to review
this new system so that it becomes
routine over the course of the season.
Returning paid CWGA members have
already been activated in the GHIN
system and we will continue to update
as members register. If you have not
yet sent in your CWGA registration,
you will need to do so if you plan to
post outside the Pacific Northwest.
Beginning this year, handicaps will
update daily, and golfers will post
their scores hole by hole. I strongly
recommend that you download or up-
date the USGA GHIN app on your
phones. This app will help you with
posting your score, knowing your
handicap index, and will automatically
calculate the stroke index for the
course you are playing. Since handi-
caps will be updated daily, it’s impor-
tant to post immediately after you
play. The app is available for everyone
to download for free, but it will not
work if you have not paid to renew
18-holers. Attending from the Niners
were Marikate Book, Mary Fieweger,
Rose Mills, Alice Schwartz, Karen Sie-
gel and Debbie Stonebraker. Eighteen-
holers attendees were Laura Noffke,
Diane Meyer and Ginny Moir.
The scoring committee is looking
for additional members, so if you are
computer savvy and know how to en-
ter information, this is the committee
for you! It does take a team to keep
this committee going and not put the
work on a very few people.
The good news for all Niners is that
you will no longer need to go to the
computer to put in your own scores!
The application deadline has
passed, but did you donate to the Wil-
sonville girls golf? There are members
who are not sure how these donations
are used and giving money to a group
without information can feel uncom-
fortable. An ongoing chat with Mau-
reen Larson will continue to help us
better understand this process. Fur-
ther details will follow next month.
Remember, you can donate on your
application, but you can also add a
donation by writing a check to the
Niners specifying that the money
goes to Wilsonville girls golf. Then
put your check into the Niners box that is in the clubhouse.
We need social members! Social
members are so important to our Nin-
ers, and we do appreciate all the help,
anywhere from luncheons to scram-
bles to the Pink Ball Tournament. Our
board is interested in hearing from so-
cial members so that we can provide
information and opportunities for you
to feel included.
To members who are not living in
Charbonneau, you can also view
newsletters online. Google Villager
Newsletter at Charbonneau, and each
month will be available. Also, our
webmasters will be posting just the
Niners’ newsletter report on our web-
site beginning with this issue.
So as you are gearing up for the
season, remember this very important
rule in golf: “Keep your sense of hu-
mor. There’s enough stress in the rest
of your life not to let bad shots ruin a
game you’re supposed to enjoy.” —

Amy became a member of the LP-
GA Tour in 1975 and won five major
championships and 29 LPGA tour
events in all. She is a member of the
World Golf Hall of Fame.
WE are looking forward to seeing
you out there soon!
your CWGA & GHIN membership. We still want CWGA members to
play golf during the week and at other
courses during the season and post
your scores. With CWGA using Golf
Genius it will help teach you to post
your scores hole by hole. Using the
USGA GHIN app will make it much
easier for you to know your daily up-
dated Handicap Index and post your
score, so be sure to download the free
app. Remember, the Pacific Northwest
does not post scores Dec.1 through
Feb. 29, but if you are playing in re-
gions that post year-round, you should
post your scores. If you have ques-
tions about your handicap or posting,
you may email Diane Meyers, at di-
[email protected].
We are looking forward to an excit-
ing and challenging year as we learn
new systems, and our teams of scor-
ing and Day’s Play volunteers are ac-
tively training in order to make the
transitions as seamless as possible.
CWGA is going to use Golf Genius
for Day’s Play
This year CWGA is going to use Golf
Genius for Day’s Play scoring and post-
ing. All players will receive individual
printed cards with their name and Indi-
vidual Stroke Index Allocations
marked on them. You will still have to
sign, attest and date the cards as usual.
On CWGA Play Days ONLY, the scor-
ing committee will post your scores.
Players will still trade score cards, and
after your match you will figure your
gross and net totals, record your re-
sults on the results sheet, and place
your scorecard in the scorer’s box. In
order to help you to become accus-
tomed to posting on other than club
play days, you will also figure your
hole-by-hole adjusted score, which is
the score that will be posted, but on
CWGA Play Days ONLY, the scoring
committee will be posting for you.
