26 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER By JIM MEIEROTTO April 2020 CCC ANNOUNCES CANCELATIONS, POSTPONES ACTIVITIES T he health and well-being of our residents and staff is our top priority. We under- stand the concern and un- certainty you may be experiencing surrounding the coronavirus (COV- ID-19) and are committed to being re- sponsive to the needs of our resi- dents as the situation evolves. Our community is among the highest risk populations facing this virus. High-risk populations include older adults and those with underlying health conditions (older adults de- fined as ages 60+). The most impor- tant measure we can do that is effec- tive is social distancing and cancel- ation of events hosting more than 10 persons in high-risk populations. As you may all now know, Gov. Kate Brown announced new guidance regarding group gatherings and social distancing. In accordance with state guidance and in order to minimize po- tential opportunities for the virus to spread in Charbonneau, we have de- cided to proactively begin suspending events that bring groups of residents together. Suspension of non-essential com- munity activities began Thursday, March 12, and will remain in effect through at least April 8. Suspended events include exercise classes, card games and food events. Q The Boys and Girls Aid Crab and PMG FILE PHOTO Staff are actively disinfecting surfaces and cleaning public areas in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Rib Dinner has been postponed. Q All fitness center memberships will be extended by one month in or- der for residents to make the personal choice to not utilize the fitness center for the next 30 days Q The March 4 Friday at Five will be postponed to a later date (TBA). Your current ticket will apply to the future event. Q The Easter Egg Hunt is canceled. Q The WilsonvilleSTAGE produc- tion of “The Lion in Winter” will not be held here at the Charbonneau Club- house. If you have purchased a ticket for one of these performances, please contact the CCC office for a refund. You also have the option of asking us LANGDON’S GRILL ODQJGRQVJULOOFRP_ to donate the amount to Wilson- villeSTAGE. Q Crucial meetings that relate to operations in governance will contin- ue and adhere to the social distancing standards. The list of affected activities may grow as we listen to and comply with our health authority’s guidance. We will update you as we make those de- cisions.  We realize that this decision will impact many residents and groups, and we know that many of the events and gatherings that we are suspend- ing are those that residents look for- ward to all year long. Suspending these events is consistent with guid- ance from health authorities, and we believe it is a prudent and responsible step to take at this time. Staff will be working with event organizers, and others who are responsible for the af- fected activities. We will continue emphasizing the importance of handwashing. Our cus- todians will continue to prioritize high-touch surfaces. And any events at the clubhouse need to incorporate at least a 3 foot social distancing rule. Residents in our community can best support our efforts by washing hands frequently, covering mouths when coughing or sneezing, and using hand sanitizer. Those experiencing symptoms of the cold or flu should stay at home. If you are concerned about symptoms, please consult with a doctor. Additional information about COV- ID-19 can be found at healthoregon. org/coronavirus or by calling 211.
