serve on the Festival Organizing Committee. Al-
though this means that we are always looking for
volunteers, it is also very positive from a big picture
perspective because bringing in new volunteers
helps keeps our organization refreshed and revital-

Volunteers needed in key roles
P
lanning for the 37th
annual Charbonneau
Arts Festival is getting
underway this month.
It will be held in our Country
Club Oct. 23-25. As with all ma-
jor fundraisers here in Char-
bonneau, there is a lot for us
HOEM
to do to bring this event to life,
so we are getting started now.
There are exciting prospects in store for us this
year.
First, I will have to train myself to call our corner-
stone event the “Charbonneau Festival of the Arts.”
The Board of Directors have updated the name of
our event to better encompass the upscale craft mer-
chants and live music we incorporate along with the
gallery art, student art show and fundraising silent
auction. We have a unique combi-
nation of elements and we want to

mittee — the action group that
puts together our festival — meets confirmation
monthly to work on the hundreds
of details needed to put together
the great weekend arts show that
Charbonneau has come to expect. This year Rick
Cady has been named by our Board of Directors to
head this group. Rick brings background in organi-
zational leadership as well professional photogra-
phy to this important role. The next meeting of the
Festival Organizing Committee will be April 22, 4
p.m., in Rec Hall C.
Each year there is natural turnover of folks who

Have you volunteered during the art festival in
the past and enjoyed it? Would you like to be in-
volved in the planning and have a bigger influence
on this year’s festival? Call me or email. Let’s see
where we can find a spot for you. I guarantee that
we will put your skills to good use.
One area where we need new blood is our out-
reach for sponsorships and donations. For the last
three years, the leader in this effort, Joan Vedder,
has done a wonderful job of lining up sponsors. How-
ever, this year she is stepping away due to family is-
sues. This year we are looking for someone who
would like to pick up this successful sponsorship
program and carry it forward. If that might be you,
give me a call.
Another need we have as we start our new year is
a recorder for the Festival Organizing Committee.
Our Association Secretary Lynda Huber Marshall,
has been carrying this load along with her responsi-
bilities to the Board of Directors. We need to find a
replacement for her with the Organizing Committee,
so she doesn’t have to continue doing “double duty”
— well, actually “triple duty” since Lynda also
chairs the group that puts together the Friday eve-
ning reception that kicks off our weekend festival.
Anyone with an interest can contact me.
For several years, we have had one person, Jenni
Kadwell, organizing the student exhibit and taking
care of connecting with the art departments in the
two high schools that we fundraise for. Jenni has do-
ne an excellent job and is continuing this year, but it
would be great to have one or two folks lend her a
hand to this critically important connection. Maybe
you’re a retired teacher and this role appeals to you.
Give me a call to find out more.
