Recognizing
Charbonneau Tennis
Club member Peg
Saries
We are
working with
the Charbon-
neau Country
Club to assess
the feasibility
of implement-
HALL ing indoor
pickleball in
Charbonneau.
One of the alternatives is to cov-
er the far outdoor tennis court
that is currently used for tennis
and outdoor pickleball. The re-
quirements are planned to be de-
fined by the end of March 2020.

This month we are recognizing
lege, working with the business
Peg Saries who is a valuable mem-
community, in small busi-
ber of our tennis club board
ness development and work-
and is the club’s secretary.
Peg was born and raised in Call the CCC at force training.
503-694-2300 Before retiring, she rose
Portland, growing up in
to the level of dean, in
for event
Parkrose schools, then
moving to Eugene for col-
confirmation charge of a large division in-
tegrating two academic pro-
lege. She received her
grams, Culinary Arts and
bachelor’s degree in educa-
Hospitality Management,
tion and master’s degree in
with two campus programs, con-
business from the University of
Oregon. Her career was varied, be-
ference center and food services.
Peg first played tennis in junior
high, and dabbled during her 20s.
When she met her husband, Rick
in her mid-50s, it was important to
him to get back into his childhood
sport, and they occasionally picked
up racquets and hit a few balls.
Then, five years ago they moved to
Charbonneau to be closer to their
kids and grandkids. The tennis
club was certainly a draw: they
joined and were almost immediate-
ly welcomed into Tuesday night
mixed doubles and Boston’s social
scene. The friendships from the
three groups that Peg plays regu-
larly with she says are the corner-
stone of what’s best about living
and playing in Charbonneau.
During her career Peg had been
on many boards, and so it wasn’t a
stretch for her when the McKen-
zie’s, Gary and Colleen, suggested
she join the board. She has always
been impressed at how well the
club is run, enjoys being a part of
the team, and seeing ways she can
help.
Rick and Peg love to cook, enter-
tain, garden and travel, and espe-
cially spend time with family and
good friends. Tennis now plays a
big role in their lives, and they
look forward to many years of
playing together. It still surprises
Peg that picking up a racquet as a
young teen could have such a pay-
off into her senior years!
