Oct. 8 when we discuss “Camino
Island.” He spins a light-hearted
tale about the stealing of some
priceless rare books from the
Princeton Library. Bruce Cable
runs a successful book store in a
quiet resort town that is a hangout
for a group of authors. He also dab-
bles in collecting rare books. Mer-
cer Masnn, an aspiring author with
writers block, no job and a big
school loan to repay is approached
by a mysterious woman who offers
her a nice pay-off to keep watch on
Cable’s activities. So she returns

your summer clothing. But some
transitions deserve an event to help
you move on to the next step.
On Sept. 6 just such an event was
held for CHOA’s State Farm Insur-
ance agent, Jay Puppo. We celebrat-
ed 30 years that Jay has been serv-
ing Charbonneau, with wine, cheese
and ice cream. What a fun time eat-
ing Jr. Scoop Ice cream with names
like S’mores, Dirt and Ooey Gooey.
I was so impressed with Jr. Scoop
ice cream company. Jr. Scoop is an en-
trepreneurial group of middle school
to her childhood home and the
fun begins. She makes friends with
the unusual, kooky group of writ-
ers and Cable. This is not the typi-
cal Grisham novel, but he is a
great storyteller so I think you will
enjoy it.
Our second book for the month
is based on the true story of the
Kure family from 1939 to 1947.
Georgia Hunter learned at 15
that she came from a family of Ho-
locaust survivors and she spent
years of research before writing
“We Were the Lucky Ones.” The
Kure fmily had a good life in Po-
land but the German invasion is
going to change that. As the war
progresses they are split up amd
lose touch with one another. Some
in a Siberian gulag, some walked
over the Alps to Iraly, and others
to Brazil and the United States. It
is hard to believe that this story
has a happy ending with the entire
family finally meeting in Brazil.
Since then most have moved to the
United States. This is a remark-
able story of love, luck and hope. I
am looking forward to our discus-
sion on Oct. 22 when we gather at
the Charbonneau Country Club

students based in Wilsonville. These
students are learning about the busi-
ness world by making their own ice
cream and serving it at community
functions.
I believe these students will transi-
tion into adult life with knowledge not
just about business, but about how to
serve and honor a variety of ages and
cultures. These middle schoolers
were interacting with ages from 40- to
90-years-old and I think a good time
was had by all.
Events and transitions are best
remembered with a celebration.
Whether the event is for 30 years of
service, or a retirement, a wedding
or the changing of the season, let’s
move into the next setting with a
party. Happy fall everyone!! Don’t
just let the seasons change, cele-
brate the change!
