pated in the local Girls Generation
competition in October for the sec-
ond year. FIRST — For Inspiration
and Recognition of Science and
Technology — is an international
youth organization that operates the
FIRST Robotics competitions, the
FIRST LEGO League and LEGO
League Jr, and FIRST Tech Chal-
lenge competitions.

is its inspirational motto. FIRST or-
ganization encourages many to com-
pete in tournament events. The high
school students will converse about
this year’s upcoming competition
season, the Girls Generation compe-
tition held Oct. 5 at Wilsonville High
School, their summer camp and their
STEM day camps.

ally, AAUW has awarded over $3
million in scholarships and grants in
the past year.
The Lake Oswego branch supports
the AAUW funds as well as provid-
ing local scholarships at Clackamas
Community College, the local uni-
versity partner. AAUW LO offers an
advocacy group, six book groups,
lunch bunch, dinner group, exploring
our Northwest, bridge group and
many monthly meetings with pre-
sentations focused on the issues of

board of directors

Taft, Jeanne-Marie Pierrlouis, Tere-
sa Schader, Karen Rottink, Stepha-
nie Wagner, Pat Squire, Susan Hor-
nung, Mary Pat Silveira, Kris Schul-
tz, Donna Needham, Diana Ricks,
Cathy Croghan Alzner, Nancy Dun-
nis, Catharine Hojem, Penny Hansen
and Jeanne Lemieux are the 2019
AAUW Lake Oswego Board of Direc-
tors.AAUW LO is a nonprofit organi-
zation whose mission is to advance
equity for women and girls through
advocacy, education and research.
Nationally, AAUW has awarded
over $3 million in scholarships and
grants in the past year.
The local branch advocates for
legislation that promotes equal pay,
and other issues related to fairness.
The branch has a partnership with
Clackamas Community College and
donates scholarships to help nontra-
ditional women students earn de-
grees. The new board is already at
work accomplishing many activities
