16 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER Charbonneau Golf Club, Inc. By JOE BROULLETTE CHARBONNEAU GOLF CLUB, INC. PRESIDENT Charbonneau golf and ladies: a classic pairing Women’s golf is very well represented in Charbonneau. There is an option available for everyone: every time allowance, every skill level, every social interest and every age. CWGA (Charbonneau Women’s Golf Association) and The Niners are the two groups available for anyone to join. CWGA has grown its membership to 92 this year. The group plays on Thursday mornings, with the option of playing either nine or 18 holes. The Niners group, which has 135 members, plays nine holes on Tuesday mornings. Since the focus of both of these groups is simply to play golf with wonderful ladies the choice of which group to join is based on May 2019 personal time constraints, similar interests, levels of play and play day preferences. Both clubs have a variety of fun events scheduled throughout the season, which runs from April through October. CWGA enjoys a full calendar of events in addition to the weekly play days including Member/Guest Day, Partner’s Tournament, Handicap Tournament, Stagette and Club Championship. One of the major events on the CWGA calendar is to support the Men’s Invitational event by managing all the background activities such as registration, breakfast, lunch, hole-in-one monitor, etc. This is another example of how all three groups (CWGA, Niners, Men’s Club) work together as one community supporting golf in Charbonneau. The Niners Schedule of Events, in addition to the weekly play days, includes Guest Day, Duo Night scramble/dinner, the Club Championship and season-ending banquet and variety show. This variety show is always a much anticipated sold-out show in the Charbonneau community. The Niners are also hosts to one of the largest golf events held in Charbonneau — The Pink Ball Tournament. This event is Errands to run? Friends to see? By MICHELLE MARSTON, FOR THE VILLAGER open to all players with the proceeds going to cancer research. Both groups have a long list of volunteers working to make sure all of these activities run smoothly and are enjoyable to all participants. We know that none of these events would happen without great time and effort contribution from these women. In summary, women’s golf in Charbonneau is alive, exciting and open to all. Rumor to Reality “The golf club is broke and facing bankruptcy” ■ The Charbonneau Golf Club has substantial financial reserves and can sustain its current operations for many years to come. “OBSports, the company that helps manage the golf course, has been sold.” ■ Troon Sports (the world’s largest golf course operator) invested in OBSports and has added it to its Sports Brand Family. ■ No changes are contemplated. Troon bought OBSports to add to its family of Sports Brands, not to operate the company. No changes are made in any personnel or in any current client engagements, including us. ■ When you board the Charbonneau Shuttle, you leave the stresses of driving and parking behind. And you can stop at any destination on the route. The Shuttle is available hourly on weekdays starting at 10 a.m. to fit your schedule. With stops at the Wilsonville Public Library, Safeway, Fred Meyer and many other businesses simply ask where you want to get off along the route, just remember to make it back to the designated pick-up Join the Charbonneau Golf Board of Directors The CGCI (Charbonneau Golf Club, Inc.)
