14 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER May 2019 Beyond the Village: Be your own leader By CLARA HOWELL, THE VILLAGER P ush your boundaries and comfort zones, and don’t be afraid to do it alone. That’s the best travel tip I can give for those seeking an enrich- ing, cultural experience. I recently traveled to Thailand for almost three months for an internship and though I worked five days out of the week — as it seems people tend to do most of their lives — I made it a goal to explore the country every weekend. And I did it alone. If I learned one thing, it was to not let others’ availability dictate your life experiences. I was going to get out and explore regardless if I had company or not. While it is generally safer to travel with someone, traveling alone doesn’t have to mean isolating yourself. I joined tours, stayed in hostels and met people along the way. But by allowing myself to hold my own hand, I opened myself to a world of opportunities. Charbonneau Tennis Club By STEVE HALL CHARBONNEAU TENNIS CLUB MANAGER Implementation of a new membership category As described in the April Villager, the tennis club is implementing a new membership category to obtain better utilization of the outdoor courts. The new type of membership allows members to use outdoor court 1 for tennis, while outdoor court 2 is primarily for pickleball. The new membership will be monitored and adjusted as necessary to ensure it meets the needs of the tennis club and the Charbonneau community. ■ The membership will be available starting May 1, 2019 through September 2019. ■ The cost is $80 for single memberships and $120 for family memberships. Starting in 2020, a $100 initiation fee in addition to the annual fee will be charged to new members. Existing members will not have to pay the initiation fee.
