4 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER June 2019 Charbonneau Women’s Association By ANNE SHEVLIN Time for transitions as business year comes to a close Spring into fashion The annual fashion show was a big hit May 13, as lovely Charbonneau resident models graced the runway with stunning fashions from Soft Surroundings in Bridgeport Village. It’s Party Time served a delicious luncheon, stunning decorations were added to the festivities, and treasured prizes from popular local vendors were raffled off. A special “Sip and Shop” exclusive shopping experience, only for Charbonneau residents, will be arranged with Soft Surroundings later in the summer and a sign-up sheet was made available at the fashion show. A big “Thank you” to Leslie Walker and her team for creating a fun and fashionable event for everyone to enjoy. If you are interested in attending the shopping event, contact Anne Shevlin at [email protected]. CWA presented Garrison with flowers and expressed gratitude for all of her work. Thank you, Garrison! Transitions As we close the business year for the association, we say farewell to valuable board members and committee chairs who helped us this year. Linda Owen has done a fantastic job helping us to determine the best catering choices this year. After the departure of a long-time caterer, Owen had to navigate a number of businesses, menus, pricing and service delivery models in order to hammer out just what was needed to keep our luncheons at the standard we wish to deliver. It was not an easy job, yet Owen rose to the occasion and helped the board and membership sort through many options to come up with the best choices. She has served for over two years and we are grateful for her good work. We will miss you, Owen! Phyllis Tanner has served as the decorating chairperson this past year and we have all benefitted from her lovely sense of style. Tanner knew just what sort of décor was needed for each of our monthly luncheons and special events. She spent many hours pondering over just the right table centerpiece or flower arrangements to compliment the theme of each event. Tanner organized her own sub- committee to assist with her efforts, and was always mindful of the budget when making her plans. We will miss you Tanner and thank you for making our luncheons a sight to behold! We also want to thank Lynda Huber-Marshall and Debbie Bray for chairing our December Holiday Brunch. Our event was truly a winter wonderland and helped ring in the holiday season for all of us. And lastly, as mentioned above, we want to recognize Leslie Walker and her team for making this year’s fashion show a huge success. Many hours of coordination are required to organize this event, and Walker made it all look easy. Thank you one and all! After serving six years on the CWA Board, I am stepping away to pursue other opportunities to be of service within Charbonneau. It has been my honor to work with so many talented, intelligent, diligent women who have been willing to give their time and efforts to make the Charbonneau Women’s Association a strong, viable entity within our lovely community. We have endeavored to shape the future of the association to best capture the interests of the women of Charbonneau, as well as make a small contribution to our surrounding communities. I am humbled to have been a part of these efforts and I thank you for the opportunity. ■ Beyond the Village: We want to hear from you By CLARA HOWELL, THE VILLAGER W e’re asking Charbonneu residents to share their travel tips/experiences with the Villager in this feature we call “Beyond the Village.” Last month, Villager Co-Editor Clara Howell shared what she learned on a recent three-month trip to Thailand.
