CHOA welcomes two new
members to its board
On April 29, we held CHOA’s Annual
Meeting. Attendance this year was a lit-
tle over 90 people. As residents arrived,
there was a PowerPoint of the accom-
plishments from this last year, includ-
ing the addition of a kitchen to our Rec
Hall. On June 15, we will celebrate our
new kitchen with an open house at the
Rec Hall on Lafayette Way.
Our guest speakers this year includ-
ed Joe Brouillette, who provided an
update on the golf course, and Kamran
Mesbah, who provided an update on the
Charbonneau Country Club. Both
Mesbah and Brouilette spoke about the
work that both boards have been doing.
I know our CHOA residents came away
June 2019
with a renewed sense of positive coop-
eration between the golf course and
CCC.
As always, Eric Hoem gave a summa-
ry of CHOA’s Emergency Preparedness
Plan in the event of a catastrophe in the
Charbonneau area. Hoem works with
the CCC to make sure that in the event
of something happening in
Charbonneau, we in CHOA will know
how to work with the country club and
know how to help CHOA residents take
care of our neighbors.
At CHOA’s Annual Meeting April 29,
we added two new members to our
board: Randy Hitz who will be our sec-
retary and Robin Shultz, Ad Hoc
Committee member. Please read their
bio’s below:
ROBIN SHULTZ:
My professional career was split
between public and private sector posi-
tions. I taught business classes at Clark
College for approximately eight years
before taking a position with IBM in the
Bay area. After nine years, my position
was transferred to Phoenix at which
time I chose to leave the company. Prior
to retiring in 2018, I spent over 20 years
with the State
of Oregon. I
was a program
manager with
oversight in
Washington
County.
I moved to
Charbonneau

of the CHOA Board.
Because I
worked during that time, I really have
not gotten to know a lot of my neigh-
bors in the community. I look forward
to this opportunity to learn more about
the association and those who live here.
Thank you.
RANDY HITZ:
My wife, Lynn, and I moved to
Charbonneau from Portland four
years ago and we absolutely love it
here. I would like to contribute time
on the board to help keep
Charbonneau a wonderful place of
beauty and community. I recently
retired from Portland State University
where I served as dean of the School
of Education for 12 years. Prior to that
I served as
dean eight
years each at
the University
of Hawaii,
Manoa and
Montana State
University.

ence includes
elementary school teaching and
administrative work at the Oregon
Department of Education where I
served as the early childhood educa-
tion specialist. I continue some part-
time professional work as a senior fel-
low at the Carnegie Foundation for
the Advancement of Teaching based
in Palo Alto.
Happy Father’s Day to everyone.
On June 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. we
will celebrate Father’s Day by hosting
an open house at our Rec Hall. If you
live in CHOA please stop by for spar-
kling cider, cookies and veggies. You
can see our new kitchen and this great
amenity, our Clubhouse, at 8298 S.W.
Lafayette Way. ■
