Sunshine
Service
By JOAN VEDDER
Our supplies are
good, consider
donating to
other worthy
organizations
Well, hap-
py summer!
Hopefully it
won’t be as
hot as last
year and we
VEDDER
can enjoy
our gardens
more. It’s so easy to find
“stuff” to do, once out-
side, and I can easily spend
hours and hours in our
July 2019
yard.
Unfortunately it also
seems to be the time of year
when many or you have opt-
ed for knee replacements or
hip repair, etc. etc. A few of
my local friends and neigh-
bors are in that situation
right now. At least the sun-
shine is a better choice when
you need to do your ‘rehab’...
I know I’m always preach-
ing how you can donate
equipment to the Sunshine
cupboard but we now have
MORE than we need! If
you’ve ever seen our space
in the clubhouse basement,
it’s packed to the gills with a
big variety of useful medical
items.
Here are suggestions for
you if you’ve got donations:
■ Call me first to be sure
that we need it.
■ Try the local Wilsonville
Community Center and ask
for Sadie Wallenberg. She is
the city senior specialist and
quite often has a senior in
need for these things.
■ Take your items up to Ti-
gard to Medical Teams Inter-
national. It’s only about a 10
minute drive ( I-5 & Bonita)
and their organization will ac-
cept ambulatory items such
as crutches, walkers, wheel-
chairs and canes, but will also
take shower benches. NO
TOILET TYPE OF ITEMS.
I’ve made many trips up
there and they are ever so
grateful for donations. Once
they have a loaded ship, they
travel around the world help-
ing people in war zones, etc.
where there is very little
help for medical situations.
Imagine what it means to
somebody who has been ter-
ribly wounded and can
now walk with the assistance
of a simple piece of equip-
ment?
We appreciate all your
help in keeping the Sunshine
Service active. Thanks so
much!
