Summer activities
available for youth
Register for environmental
summer camp
Children can explore, learn and play at
the Environmental Learning Center
(ELC) camp at Clackamas Community
College’s Oregon City campus, 19600 Mo-
lalla Ave., this summer.
The ELC is offering two hands-on
camps for children in first through fifth
grade over three weeks.
The Nature Spy Water Camp for first
and second graders gives children the op-
portunity to explore wetlands, make
crafts, discover water-related creatures
and more, July 8-11, July 15-18 and July
29-Aug. 1. The camp costs $230.
Another camp that is offered is the Na-
ture Spy Astronomy Camp for third
through fifth graders.
Campers will learn about the solar sys-
tem, hunt for micrometeorites, experi-
ence the power of the sun through solar
oven-baked s’mores and more, July 8-11
and July 15-18. The camp costs $250.
The summer camps are from 9 a.m. to

able. Scholarships are offered on a first-
come, first-served basis.

Rose City Rowing Club offers classes
The Rose City Rowing Club will teach
incoming seventh and eighth graders
how to row in a six-week series of class-
es at the Portland Boathouse, 1515 S.E.
Water Ave. The classes are from 10:30
a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thurs-
days, June 18-July 25. Classes cost $120
for the session.
There are sessions available for stu-
dents with and without experience.

boards of both organizations have ap-
proved, via resolution, a complete analy-
sis of combining both organizations.
■ There are numerous legal, finan-
cial and operational matters to review.
■ The interest of three groups are
the focus of the review:

The golfers
The shareholders of the Golf Corpo-
ration
There is a high level of interest
with this initiative and the involved
parties are working diligently to have
■ This is a project being underwrit-
ten by the Golf Club in response to a
growing number of requests for meet-
ing space for weddings, tournaments
and other business and community
events.
■ Final design is complete, bid/per-
mit drawings have been submitted to
the city and to contractors for bids.
■ A rendering of the proposed cover-
ing can be viewed at the CCC office.
■ This new covered space will create
new revenue sources for the Golf Club.
■ Completion is scheduled for year-
end and is subject to weather.
■ The plan is to build a covering this
year, operate for another year and then
decide on side covering.
I want to point out that both of these
initiatives demonstrate an unprece-
dented level of commitment and coop-
eration between CCC and CGCI. I want
to extend my most sincere thanks and
appreciation to all of the folks that are
working hard to complete these initia-
tives, representing significant value to
the Charbonneau community.
