T
he Charbonneau Arts Association donated $4,000
each to the art program at Canby and Wilsonville
High Schools in an Award Reception at Charbon-
neau Country Club, Sunday, Jan. 13.
These donations represent proceeds from the
2018 Charbonneau Art Festival, which was held Nov.
2- 4, 2019. The Charbonneau Arts
Association is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization whose mission is
providing an exhibit opportunity and
financial support for these two art
program.
We believe that art education is an
important part of high school education; however, it
has gotten less funding in recent years, and so our
organization has come forward to help.
At Wilsonville High School, 400-480 students take
art classes each semester, reports teacher
Christopher Shotola-Hardt. “We have designated a
special account to help cover entry fees and tuitions
for competitions and workshops for our students,
opportunities for young artists outside the normal
classroom routines and in-house exhibitions,” Shotola-
Hardt says.
“We want to continue supporting students getting
involved in the Scholastic Art Awards. We have also
talked about bringing in special presenters and artists
whose skill sets and work is different than that of any
of us,” he adds.
Canby High School serves more than 600 students
in art education classes, says teacher Jennifer Dorsey.
With past donations from the Charbonneau Art
Association, the Canby art program has funded field
trips and purchased equipment that is not possible

or a face that goes with a name. This is the
year to solve this memory problem. We
have developed a prototype “Gallery of
Friendly Faces” on our website under the
menu labelled MEMBERS. Take a look
around the gallery; faces are organized
alphabetically. Scroll through to find the
face and discover the name; or scroll
through to find the name and discover the
face. Later in the year, we may put a
printed copy of the gallery in the Club
Room at the Pro Shop.

with their ordinary funding.
Dorsey also reports, “Recently a portion of the
donation has gone into our CHS Visual Arts
Scholarship for a graduating CHS student who is
majoring in Visual Art in college.”
“None of these activities and large equipment
purchases would be possible without the donations
over the years from the Charbonneau Arts
Association,” she concludes.
New website
We start the New Year with a much improved
website thanks to a Community Opportunity Grant
from the City of Wilsonville. Our website is more
dynamic now with up to date interactive features, and
so we are able to recognize our sponsors much more
dramatically. We have also added tools to let us
analyze our impact and fine tune our programs.
With the expanded capability, we hope to highlight
Charbonneau artists this year and add a section for
one or more photos (i.e. head and
shoulders) to [email protected]. Many
members are sending more than one
photo, one while wearing a hat and one
without a hat.
Guest Day Policy now allows THREE
The Board of Directors has updated the
Guest Policy for 2019 golf season. It is now
more flexible to invite guests to come and
play at Charbonneau. For many events,
you will be allowed to invite up to THREE
guests to fill out a foursome tee time. There
are important exceptions. Please download
or read the full “Guest Day Policy” found
on the website under the ADMIN menu,
then click or touch the “Policies and Admin
Rules.”
Late in 2018, we applied for membership in the
Oregon Cultural Trust, which provides two highly
useful opportunities. This program allows folks who
make cash contribution to the Charbonneau Art
Association to double their impact through an Oregon
Income Tax Credit of up to $1,000 per couple.
Secondly, membership qualifies us to apply for
grants through the Oregon Cultural Trust program.
This opportunity has the potential of adding another
stream of financial support to our fund-raising and
promises to help increase our annual donations to
public art education programs.
If interested, you can find out details about this
opportunity at www.culturaltrust.org.
Mark calendar for next year's festival
Our 36th Annual Charbonneau Art Festival will be
held Nov. 1, 2, and 3, 2019. As we develop our plans,
further information will be posted on our website,
www.charbonneauarts.org.
Artists and artisans can expect to see this year's
applications posted in May. And all of you can expect
us to develop the very best art festival we can.
