12 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER December 2019 Charbonneau Arts Association By ERIC HOEM What made the 2019 Charbonneau Arts Festival so successful? This year’s Charbonneau Arts Festival set a new standard for our associa- tion. The pro- verbial bar was raised for us in HOEM numerous ways both large and small. I have reported in previous issues of The Villager all the plan- ning and support that developed through the end of September for our 36th annual event. And yet, ma- ny wonderful surprises led to the way it all came together in the final weeks of October. A huge key to the festival’s success was the marvelous display of volun- teering by Charbonneau residents. There were more than 150 time slots for all the tasks required during four days of preparation, event, and clean up. Some 110 different individuals stepped forward to help. I extend a most warm “Thank You!” to all who volunteered. Special recognition deserved In the past, I have highlighted lead- ers in the Charbonneau Arts Associa- tion that contribute so much. Here, I want to commend the folks who made special contributions this year. Start- ing with the numerous volunteer slots and individuals, my first shout out is to Pat Tewell who stepped into the role of volunteer recruiter ex- traordinaire and rounded up those 110 folks. This year Elaine Swyt raised her own a high standard of covering criti- cal areas elegantly. She managed publicity, graphics and the website. In addition, Elaine ran the silent auc- COURTESY PHOTOS: JOHN MCLAIN Elaine Luneke, right, was the featured artist at the art show. Elaine Swyt, artist and volunteer, wins the People’s Choice Award. At the time of this writ- ing, preliminary results suggest that the silent auction added $6,000 to funds we can donate to local high school art programs. Cathi McLain also stepped up big time. She supported Elaine Swyt with the website and graphics, including doing the festival programs. In addi- tion, Cathi supported Leslie Leeper as she developed materials for our Fire- place Room Gallery. In the Fireplace Room Gallery a new feature was added this year that proved very popular. Five artists had the opportunity to sell packaged art and greeting cards. This addition to our typical setup required its own management. Rick Cady took this on masterfully and made it work smoothly for patrons as well as for the artists. Facilities management is always a major concern for me because I want to be certain that we take care of Charbonneau Country Club facilities. Len Zuker managed this to perfection this year. Our festival uses the entire country club.
