Tennis tournament proves
success despite rain
The 13th annual
tournament got off to
a slow start with rain
forcing some of the
matches to be resched-
uled. Fortunately, the
HALL
weather got better and
Tournament Director
Craig Koessler, assisted by volunteers
from Wilsonville High School, did an
excellent job of making the necessary
adjustments and completing all of the
matches by late Sunday afternoon.
The number of participants was down
compared with previous years, particu-
larly in the junior categories. Also, a
number of players were unable to enter
the tournament because they were
scheduled to play in USTA matches.
Next year we may schedule the tourna-
ment at a different time. As usual, Wind-
ermere Realtors provided a nice BBQ on
Saturday afternoon and the Saturday
evening potluck and silent auction went
very well. Special thanks also go out to
Players Racquet Shop for helping out
with prizes.
Congratulations to the following club
members who won their event in the
tournament:
■ Men’s 4.0 singles: Tom Lonergan
■ Men’s 7.0 (combined) doubles: Steve
Ryan & Gary Townsend
■ Men’s 8.0 (combined) doubles: Gary
& Shawn McKenzie
■ Women’s 6.0 (combined) doubles:
Swathi Karlapati & Kate Schramm
