THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 23 August 2019 Boys and Girls Aid By MARGIE WIESENTHAL Check us out at Community Information Day “T here can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.” —Nel- son Mandella. Many of the children in the Portland area are not treated well. They are abused, left on the streets to fend for them- selves or shuffled from one foster home to another. What does this reveal about our society? When children are connect- ed to Boys and Girls Aid things COURTESY IMAGES There will be a Boys and Girls Aid table at the Community Information Day this month. The Wilsonville part of this organization is called The Cypress Branch. It includes members from the surround- ing area. We work hard throughout the year to volun- teer and raise funds for Boys and Girls Aid. In addition to helping at the Adoption Picnic, we assemble sport Bags for Boys and donate gifts at Christmas for the children, create Easter baskets for girls and hold an amazing Crab and Rib Dinner at the Country Club in the spring. Stop by our table at the change for them. This amazing organization will counsel them and place them in good foster care that has been carefully chosen with their specific needs in mind. The children are often adopted by these fos- ter families. During the summer, Boys and Girls Aid holds a picnic for all the adoptive families and the children they have taken into their homes permanently. The happy faces of the girls and boys at this picnic show us a good deal about the ‘society’ created by Boys and Girls Aid.
