THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 21 August 2019 Charbonneau Golf Club, Inc. By JOE BROUILLETTE Golf course irrigation is the power behind the play There are many unsung hero’s that make this golf course work and play well. No one is more responsible BROUILLETTE than the Course Su- perintendent Matt Collier. Since he took on this role a few months ago, he has really made a difference. Below is a list of just a few of the many contributions Matt has introduced: ■ Installed self-cleaning intakes on the main water supply lines. ■ Large holes were found on the original intakes in the pond. ■ By eliminating these holes and upgrading to a self-cleaning unit, no longer will we be sucking in foreign objects creating headaches for land- scapers and the golf course. ■ Realigned 80 hp electric river pump. ■ Steve’s Pump Service recom- mended the realignment of the elec- tric motor and pump housing. ■ By doing this we will extend the lifespan of this pump by ensuring the drive shaft is balanced and straight. ■ Installed fountains in irrigation pond. ■ Along with the aesthetically pleasing look of the fountains, we can also look forward to less algae in our irrigation pond. ■ Agitating water will create a less favorable growing environment for algae. ■ Installed three commercial grade dehumidifiers. ■ Created a safer working environ- ment while servicing pumps and work- ing around 400 volts of electricity. These changes improve water flow quality for the course and HOA’s we support. Matt is putting the final touches on our irrigation system up- grade. New programmable sprinklers are being installed that will allow us to better manage water flow, spot wa- tering and remote operations. More efficient water operations save money and produce better results. We thank you for your patience these last few months as we have made these improvements.
