A community effort
The scale and complexity of the project were significant. From lowering the road by two metres to removing a long-standing subway and navigating dense utility networks, the challenges were many. Yet collaboration between Swindon Borough Council, Colas Ltd( Principal Contractor), and other partners ensured successful delivery.
“ Delivering capital infrastructure projects on behalf of Central Government for the benefit of local residents, visitors and businesses in the town has been challenging at times, but hugely rewarding. Watching people make their journeys— young and old, pushchairs, mobility aids and bicycles— the scheme sets the tone for the council’ s mission to build a fairer, better and greener Swindon. It looks beautiful and I hope the residents of Swindon enjoy it for years to come.”
Claire Alexander Project Director at Swindon Borough Council
Looking ahead
