LOCAL BUSINESSES HELP IGNITE
# 72 ' THE MUNSON BURNER ’
A promising young motorcycle racer from Swindon has won the support of a number of local businesses in his quest to become one of the UK ’ s best riders . 15-year-old Samuel Munson ( aka the Munson Burner ) is set to compete at the 2023 British Superbikes ( BSB ) in the Hel Performance British Junior Supersport Championship .
Samuel who is a pupil at the town ’ s Lydiard Park Academy started racing at just eight years old , which is late compared to his peers , but nonetheless showed great talent , winning his debut season becoming the UK ’ s Rookie Mini Moto champion .
During his first year in action , Samuel ’ s success caught the
eye of Alan Taddei , owner of TDi Media who filmed and commented on the races at the time . He nicknamed Samuel ‘ The Munson Burner ’ because he was “ on fire !” and the fun nickname has stuck .
He has continued to compete in the various classes at the FAB Racing Championships and also took part in the FIM Mini GP Series , both of which are recognised as routes to BSB , Moto GP and beyond ( supported by Dorna , the governing body for Moto GP , the FIM and World Superbikes ).
Samuel has competed on mini motos , Ohvale and Metrakit 50 and 70 GP machines to great success , having never finished outside the top ten in five seasons of competition .
And it has proven to be the road to BSB as Samuel ’ s new challenge this year is the HEL Performance British Junior Supersport Championship , aimed as an entry level class for riders aged 14-22 year olds , competing on production machines from 200cc – 500cc . Samuel will be racing on a Kawasaki Ninja 400 and is training hard ahead of the competition getting underway .
The BSB season kicks off on the 7th April at Silverstone and consists of eight rounds which conclude in October . One of the rounds will be at Donington Park Circuit in Derby as a support class for World Superbikes .
Until this point , Samuel has been supported by his parents Steve and Sarah but now things have revved up a notch , it was time to get sponsors on board .
Samuel ’ s dad , Steve , said , “ Like any sport in this country , it ’ s really hard to get the support and media exposure young
talent needs to be competitive on the national and world stage , motorsport is particularly difficult due to the high costs involved . I ’ m a realist and if I didn ’ t think that Samuel was good enough , I would ’ ve told him it was a hobby years ' ago . However that ' s how this all started , as a hobby , but he has consistently stepped up his game in every championship he has competed in and holds great promise this season too .
