POSITIVE BUSINESS
Announcing The Business Exchange
South West Charity Conference 2020
Following the success of the inaugural Business Exchange South West Charity Conference 2019,
the event is returning in 2020 with a new venue and format.
The 2020 event will be hosted at Bath
Racecourse on Thursday 6th February 2020
and will bring together local charities, the
third sector and businesses to connect,
share learnings and go for growth.
The day will start with a networking
breakfast at 7:30am and the conference will
officially open with an inspirational keynote
speaker to set the tone for the day.
From 9am-3pm there will be an
opportunity for businesses and charities to
exhibit. Charities can showcase their work
and companies can demonstrate to the third
sector their specialisms.
Throughout the day delegates will be
able to attend a number of seminar slots
designed to educate, inform, inspire and
ignite ideas.
The seminar sessions will cover a number
of topics voted for by this year’s attendees in
post-event feedback.
Subjects for discussion include:
•

The Business Exchange is proud to
announce that 2019’s event partners have
signed up to support the charity conference
again in 2020. Fidelius Group, Stone King
LLP and Milsted Langdon LLP, will all be
involved, with their specific contributions
to be announced once the full day’s
programme is compiled. What we can reveal
is that Fidelius will be hosting a Giving Bank,
where people can donate everything from
time to skills and financial support.
Over 90 delegates attended the first
Business Exchange South West Charity
Conference and the plan is to double that
figure next year.
The idea is to make the event as
affordable as possible, with the ability to
pick and mix the parts of the day you attend.
Breakfast will be charged at £10 per ticket,
charity / third sector exhibition stands cost
£40+VAT or £50+VAT for a stand plus goodie
bag inclusion. Business stands are priced
at £100+VAT and £120+VAT for a stand plus
goodie bag insert. This is not an income-
generating event, we just need to cover our
costs.
“As a charity we don’t often
get the opportunity to
interact with businesses. It
was a revelation to see how
important and beneficial
it is to foster symbiotic
relationships between the
two. I found the speakers
all very relevant and
insightful too.”

PUT ON THE GLITZ FOR THE GATSBY GALA BALL
The Business against Poverty annual fundraising ball returns
to Bailbrook House Hotel on Saturday 9th November 2019.
This year’s event has a 1920s Gatsby
theme and members of the local business
community are invited to come along,
network, have fun, and find out more about
Business against Poverty’s charity, People
against Poverty. Attendees will enjoy a three-
course meal, auction, raffle and the evening
will finish with a live band.
Local accountancy firm, Chippendale &
Clark, is the ball’s headline sponsor.
Phil Clark, Owner and Director of
Chippendale & Clark, said, “Chippendale &
Clark is a successful practice and we wanted
to share some of this success with a cause
that felt close to our hearts. Working with
a small, local charity was important to us
and we liked the work that People against
Poverty was doing. Rather than just make
a monthly donation, we decided to become
a member of Business against Poverty, a
community of close to 100 local businesses,
all of which support the charity’s goals and
ambitions. This provides another income
stream for the charity but crucially it also
helps People against Poverty to access
expertise and other resources across its
membership.”
Phil continued, “The charity’s motto, ‘A
handshake, not a handout’ is based on the
principle that if you help someone, they, in
turn, will help others and the ripple effect
will lead to someone’s world becoming a
better place to live and work in. My team and
I are very excited that through our support,
along with the other business members, the
charity’s first micro-farm based in Romania
has become self-sustaining and the
benefits to the local community have been
considerable.”
