LEGAL
Meet Bower & Bailey’s new recruit -
Tamara Worboys
I have studied and worked in law most of my adult life, both in the UK
and abroad. Commercial property law found me (a few more years ago
than I like to remember!) and became my speciality.
@BowerBailey
“I have learnt to appreciate
that the legal world is very
unfamiliar to many people.”
I firmly believe that my role
is to pull a deal together: find
a way or make one. I made a
new year’s resolution at the
beginning of 2018 to move area
and change jobs, so here I am,
part of a busy team at Bower
and Bailey in Swindon, where
I have now been for a couple
of months. I was struck from
the start by how unusually
friendly and approachable the
people at Bower and Bailey are,
very different to the view most
people have towards lawyers
and law firms.
The wide range of
commercial property work that
Bower and Bailey handle and the
experience and skills available
here are striking; we handle
property transaction of all
sizes and I have some exciting
projects to deal with in this area
and farther afield: housing and
commercial developments, hotel
acquisitions, the developments
of holiday cottages and
retirement living.
The approachable culture of
the firm, the depth of its local
knowledge, legal expertise and
its pragmatic approach to our
work explain why we are busy
and will continue to be so.
Swindon and its hinterland
have a lot going on commercially
and it’s exciting to have a role
in it. That was endorsed in a
networking event I attended in
the Old Town recently where
there was great enthusiasm
for Swindon and region’s
commercial property market.
From experience, I know
that whether the economic
climate is good or bad, good
property transactions still occur.
Evidently, Brexit is on people’s
minds currently; however, when
we leave the EU the sun will still
rise the following morning.
Businesses will need
premises and people still need
homes. Good businesses are
resilient and adaptable when
faced with change. So on the
whole, I’m optimistic for 2019.
I was asked, “what’s my top
tip to anyone buying commercial
property?” to which I say if any
of us had worked that out, we
would have patented it and
retired. If I do find that top
tip, you will find me open air
swimming somewhere: my great
passion in life. It’s the one place
I can assure you that I’ll not
be taking e-mails or returning
phone calls; apart from that, I’m
here if you need me.
