POSITIVE BUSINESS
Inner Flame celebrates 10th Anniversary
with Young Champions Evening
Swindon-based charity, Inner Flame, is celebrating
ten years of success this year. Its mission is to help
disadvantaged young people (aged 16-25) to achieve their
potential.
Inner Flame is working towards a world where every
young person recognises their own value, sees their
potential and what they can contribute to the world and
feels confident to conquer whatever challenges come their
way.
The charity is currently running programmes with young
people in Swindon and Bath and is the local delivery
partner for the Prince’s Trust TEAM programme, a 12-week
course to develop essential skills required for employment
and life.
To mark Inner Flame’s 10th anniversary on Friday April
20, their annual Young Champions evening is being
made extra special with guest speakers Eddie “The Eagle”
Edwards, the self-taught Olympic ski jumper, as well as
Paralympian, Stephanie Millward.
James Threlfall from Inner Flame said: “We’d like to
invite the local business community to join us for an
evening of entertainment and inspiration, recognising the
amazing young people in our community. With a three-
course meal, special guests and live acts, we’re banding
together for another year to support our young people
have, to celebrate their successes, and to raise money for
the charity.”
Throughout the evening, six young people that have
participated in Inner Flame courses and have achieved
great things will receive awards to recognise their success.
Tables of 10 are available from £500 per table, including
a three-course meal. Further information can be found at www.innerflame.org.uk/young-champions-2018.
Smaller businesses or groups can book individual places
on a “Business Networking” table.

People against Poverty funds humanitarian work around
the world, enabling those living in desperate poverty to
reach a state of self-sustainability. Some of their work
includes providing medical care, legal assistance and
education in countries such as Haiti, Nepal and Romania.
In the last year alone, PaP has provided assistance in 45
court cases, nearly 40,000 hot meals to malnourished
children and almost 2,000 food parcels.
By giving it up for Lent, even a small commitment such
as skipping a daily chocolate bar could raise £24, enough
to provide a child with the tools they need to attend
school. All the money raised will go towards funding PaP’s
Project 40 programme, which aims to sponsor 40 families
living in poverty.
Lent begins on the 14th of February and ends on the
29th March. If you would like to offer your support, please

Give it up for Lent
People against Poverty (PaP) is
urging you to quit your vices and do
a sponsored ‘give it up for Lent’ in
support of the charity.
By donating any savings and money
raised to the charity, you can make
a real change to the lives of those
in need while making a positive
difference in your own life. If you’ve
been considering giving up smoking or
drinking, this opportunity could provide
you with that extra motivation you
need to make the change.

Jessie May Trust - Looking forward to a positive 2018
The Jessie May Children’s Hospice
At Home is looking forward to an
exciting 2018 with a focus on building
relationships with the wider Wiltshire
business community.
The charity provides hospice nursing
care for terminally ill children in their
own home. It was founded in 1996 and
currently has four specially trained
nurses who can care for ten families at
a time.
Debbie Clark, Corporate and Community Fundraising
Officer explains: “It costs £30,000 a year to fund a
nurse. That includes specialised training so they can offer
dedicated support to the child and their families when they
are at end of life stage.
“We’ve identified there are 90 children in Swindon
and Wiltshire who need our help. At present we can only
support 35.
“As part of our five-year plan we hope to take on an
additional five nurses.”
Throughout 2017 the charity focussed on establishing a
rapport with local Swindon businesses. Today over a dozen
companies and organisations including Swindon Lions,
Honda and Hills Construction Group support the charity.
Debbie sees her role as vital in explaining the Jessie May
Trust ethos:
“While there are many good causes for businesses to
support, it’s vital we are here to help those families and
children who most need us.”
