Celebrate UK
Employee Ownership
Day with NSBRC
Staff at The Homebuilding Centre Ltd, who operate Swindon’s self build visitor
centre are taking part in the UK Employee Ownership Day (EO Day), run by the
Employee Ownership Association (EOA), on Friday July 1, 2016.
EO Day is a national celebration of the
benefits of employee ownership with the
aim of raising awareness about the positive
impact this sector has on the UK economy.
Formed in 2014, and now employing
13 local people, the employee owned
NSBRC is the UK’s only permanent venue
for people building or improving their own
homes and offers free advice, support and
training. As an Employee Owned Business
each member of the team has a say in how
it is run, a genuine sense of ownership and
a stake in its success.

The team were Highly Commended
in the ‘Rising Star’ category at the 2015
Employee Ownership Awards and are
proud to celebrate employee ownership
alongside others in the sector across the
UK, as Harvey Fremlin, managing director,
explains:
“We enjoyed a successful first full
year of trading as a new business, with
footfall to the Centre up 18.9% and
revenue increasing significantly on previous
operating models. This was in no small
part due to the culture, and agreed work

ethic, that we have collectively developed
as an employee owned business. Although
our business model requires fewer staff,
productivity is at an all-time high and we
believe the Centre is a delightful place to
work for and with.
Employee Ownership Day gives us
an opportunity to take stock of our
achievements and our future goals, whilst
providing an opportunity to learn from
other businesses and share our story.
We will be hosting a special morning of
networking, but have a few surprises in

mind to keep the session fun. Any business
in Swindon and Wiltshire who would like
to come along and find out more about
