BUSINESS NEWS SWINDON COMPANY GROWS WITH THE RECRUITMENT OF LOCAL GIRL KATIE Swindon’s unique Self Build visitor centre, the NSBRC, has just announced a new addition to the team, Katie Compton, who joins as ‘Business Support Assistant’ and brings a positive ‘can do’ attitude along with a good business grounding, having completed her Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business last year. Katie, 17, will take on a diverse role initially, supporting each department within the company, with the longer term aim of honing her skills in an area that matches her future ambitions. In her first few weeks with the business Katie has helped co-ordinate several large conferences held at the Centre, worked on a marketing campaign to promote their self build courses and even met Wallace & Gromit whilst visiting the Aardman Studios in Bristol as part of an employee ownership networking event. The Homebuilding Centre Ltd, that operates the NSBRC, is an employee owned business making it a little different to most employers in the area and Katie will become an employeeshareholder in the business, as with all the team, with the majority of the company's shares held by an Employee Ownership Trust. The business was originally looking to recruit an apprentice but Katie, who did not qualify as an apprentice having already achieved a Level 3 qualification, fitted 6 THE BUSINESS EXCHANGE 2016 the company’s needs perfectly as Louise Jarmey, front of house manager explains: “Katie impressed us from her first interview, arriving with a confidence and positive approach that is unusual for such a young person. She delivered a well thought thorough marketing pitch to the management team as part of the recruitment process and we knew right away we wanted her to join our team. We are looking forward to watching Katie flourish and will be providing her with all the support and tools she needs to achieve her career goals whilst helping our business develop”. Katie said: “I am really excited to join the NSBRC and, having worked in several part time roles to gain experience, feel this is the start of an interesting career. The team are fantastic to work with and are always supportive if I need their advice and it seems that once people have worked for the company they don’t ever want to leave!” The NSBRC offers advice and information for people who want to build a new, or simply improve their current, home.
