A fashionable vision for Bath ’ s future

Bath has long been associated with fashion and sociability thanks to Beau Nash who played a key role in transforming the city into a fashionable resort in the 18th century .
Since then , Bath has continued to be very much in vogue , with visitors flocking to Bath to see and be seen . New plans for Bath are set to cash in on this trend . The catalyst for change came when the National Trust invoked a break clause in Bath and North East Somerset Council ’ s lease of the Assembly Rooms , home to Bath ’ s world renowned Fashion Museum since 1963 .
The Museum which pre-covid attracted more than 100,000 visitors a year is set to close at the end of October 2022 , with a new temporary location being sought until concrete plans are made for its future . The Fashion Museum is at the heart of a Masterplan to transform currently underdeveloped areas of Bath and join up the Walcot Street , Broad Street and Milsom Street areas into a space known as Milsom Quarter .

A short video explaining the masterplan has already had 2,000 views since the launch of the consultation .
Councillor Richard Samuel , Deputy Leader and cabinet member for Economic Development and Resources , said ,“ The Masterplan takes inspiration from Milsom Quarter ’ s past strength as a leading fashionable location and complements the rest of the city centre . It aims to make this part of the city more vibrant and bring in more creative industry . However , the wideranging plans are a work in progress and we want residents to have their say .
