Sisters Are Doin ' it for Themselves

Meet sisters Coco and Emily McGuire and their very different businesses .
Coco McGuire is the Founder of Wild + Wander , a new business which started through lockdown selling gift boxes for newborns .
CELEBRATING WOMEN IN BUSINESS
Wild + Wander was launched in January this year after Coco struggled to find the perfect gift for her own loved ones .
Coco said , “ After not being able to find the tasteful , artisan gift boxes I was looking for to suit my own style and my friends , I ended up sourcing and handpicking lovely products from across the UK to create my own custom gift boxes .
“ After wonderful feedback from my tribe ( and a lot of research ), Wild + Wander was born .”
Although the core product range is currently for babies , Coco has already started to diversify , creating an ‘ earth mama ’ pregnancy gift box option for mums-to-be .
Coco added , “ Each element of a Wild + Wander gift box is hand selected by me . Some parts are handmade such as our
bath salts , loose leaf teas and dried flower bouquets . I ’ m really looking forward to expanding the range of gift boxes , products and gifting services as the business grows .
“ I ’ m passionate about Wild + Wander being an ethical business . £ 1 from every sale is donated to Tommy ’ s , the largest charity carrying out research into pregnancy loss and premature birth in the UK . In turn , helping to support women who want to become a mum . We are now also thrilled to say we are a carbon neutral company , partnering with Ecologi to offset our carbon footprint each month .”
Coco is the daughter of well-known Bath property entrepreneur and business coach , Catherine McGuire .
Catherine said , “ I ’ m really proud that both of my daughters have followed in my
entrepreneurial footsteps . I ’ ve raised them to be strong , independent girls and I ’ m excited to see what ’ s next for Wild + Wander .”
We asked Coco why International Women ’ s Day is important to her . She said , “ I was raised to value my gender and not take the rights that women before me have fought and died for , for granted . I feel very strongly about acknowledging and celebrating the development of our gender and what we have achieved , so that we and females to come , can live in a safe , educated and equal world ".
Wild + Wander gift boxes can be bought online via Coco ’ s website and through Etsy .

The pandemic changed her circumstances and gave her the opportunity to seize the moment and concentrate on Emily McGuire Copywriting full-time .
Aged 25 , Emily offers a fresh , contemporary writing style . Emily said , “ I started freelance copywriting because I wanted to be my own boss to help people , like you , love your own business , so others can too . Writing gives me that Judd Nelson fist pump feeling , and I want your customers to feel that way about your products and services .”
Since setting up Emily has worked with a diverse portfolio of clients from wedding photographers , to grazing caterer BERRY and Brie and beauty brand dewty - the UK ’ s first collagen drink . Her new eBook The No Bullsh * t Guide to Copywriting was released on 1st March , aimed at helping small businesses and aspiring copywriters learn the industry ’ s expert tricks to write copy that sells .
Emily said , “ Copy is a HUGE deal . It ’ s a secret marketing tool that starts a conversation between your brand and your customers , while letting the reader know what you ’ re all about . Really , it ’ s the only way to get someone to pay attention to your business . You want them to be sucked into
your words quicker than your socks go missing in the washing machine .”
We asked Emily why International Women ’ s Day is important to her . “ This day allows us to celebrate the women close who shape us , and those who have dedicated their lives to change the patriarchy that women have faced for many years . It also gives us that space to take a hard look at the challenge ’ s women face and continue to take large strides towards equality .
“ Without realising , we are accustomed to a style of life that doesn ’ t let women embrace their full selves . We must want for equal pay , more female representation in politics and removing the male stigma in jobs in
the Science , Technology , Engineering , and Mathematics ( STEM ) industry .
“ I wanted to be a writer and an author as a kid and I have ended up doing both of those with a bright future ahead of me . I personally haven ’ t been held back , however , if it wasn ’ t for strong female figures in literature , such as Jane Austen , who often challenged the men in her life and the industry , I wouldn ’ t have been so lucky .
“ To the strong independent girls of the future , don ’ t underestimate how powerful a singular voice can be and use your platforms to shout about incredible woman in our community .”
