Is a fashion revolution coming? by Irene Fajardo Plaza There have been big changes in the way of dressing up of women of bourgeoisie. Where are the luxurious dresses with lots of colors, pompoms and flounces? I have been talking with some women of the upper class and they have explained us the reason for this dramatic change. I have to talk about the clothing of nurses. The dresses are shorter and more simple, this makes easier the work in hospital. In this photograph we can see how the dresses were before the change. A duchess has explained us that it was not comfortable. It weighed a lot and it was very hot. “We wore a flounced petticoat under it and this reduced our movements.”, she claims. The new model is a dress made up of silk, usually white without any type of stiff. It is more usable and also lighter because of the materials. But, who brought this dress into the spotlight? Josefina Bonaparte has been the first wearing this kind of dresses, making them very famous from all over Europe. As you can see, this design is more simple. Of course, almost every woman wants to wear one of this dresses to imitate Josefina. But, like in all points, there are different opinions about this. Let’s talk with Cayetana, who has a completely different point of view: - Cayetana, what do you think about this new fashion? “This is an aberration, those dresses seem to be from a needlewoman or even from a roofless.” -So, you are against this type of dresses but, do you think this style will stay for a long time? “Of course no, or at least I hope not.” I have also interviewed a nurse: -What is your opinion about the new uniform for nurses? “I like it so much because it has a lot of advantages and it is more comfortable.” -Does the price change? “I think the price is a bit higher but I do not really care because I love it!.” Under my point of view, this changes are affecting to society and may lead too many other changes. Beautiful women must be in an ideal weight and use corsets to exalt breast and hips. The bigger the breast, the better the woman. This new dresses have opened a door to larger women who want to be well considered by society although they are overweight because dresses are looser and fit better to each body.
