Today we distinguish the clothes according to their use and times of day in which they
were worn.
There were morning or day dresses, formal afternoon tea dresses, evening dresses or
prom
Morning dress
Morning dresses were often simpler, less elaborate in
terms of lace, bows, ribbons, which were not lacking.
Most often the fabrics were stuck and dresses were les
s valuable, to allow longer use.
Even the fantasies were different
Afternoon dress
Afternoon dresses were worn for making and receiving requests, for
walks: the colors could be darker, more elaborate lines and precious
fabrics.
Tea gown
With the introduction of corseted women felt the need of a
further type of dress, the dress from tea, which had very different
shapes, from those similar to an afternoon dress but without the
hindrance of the bust, more extravagant forms that made it
similar to a robe.
Ball gown, evening dress
Ladies social commitments, which could go to the tumbler dance, to
theatre, concert, dinner more or less formal. From fabrics to detail,
tailoring clothes for the evening were the best that the nineteenth-
century fashion.
