1 (50 min)
Teacher distributes ten pictures about inventions and ten invention
descriptions. Students have to interact to find his/her partner (matching
picture and description). Then, in pairs, they have to prepare a speech
(collaborative) to explain their inventions to the rest of the group.

Collaborative inquiry & Reading Comprehension
Collaborative inquiry: Students must work together in order to determine
pict ures and characteristics which matching.
Reading Comprehension: it is an individual's ability to comprehend text is
influenced by their traits and skills, one of which is the ability to make
inferences.
Medium
Steps
1 Teacher distributes ten pictures about inventions and ten invention
descriptions.
2 Students have to interact to find his/her partner (matching picture and
description). They create an outer circle (with students with pictures) and
inner circle (with students with characteristics). Outer circle members
check with their inner circle partner. If they do not match, outer circle
move clock-wise. Otherwise the pair leave the circle and start next step.
3 Each pair read the description and characteristics of their picture. They
infer advantages and disadvantages. (20 min).
4 Speech: each pair explain the invention including advantages and
disadvantages. The rest one take note.
5 When everybody finish the speech, they discuss in a collaborative way
what will be the best invention.
Strengths It is a structure activity focused on introvert-student’s participation.
Students develop their reading comprehension in challenging text. It is
quite interactive and encourages speaking and participation.
Weaknesses The first part of the activity (Collaborative inquiry) can be a mess the first
time if teacher does not explain the instruction properly.
