" I ' ve had a seven-year association with the club with a break in between but I ' ve had some very enjoyable moments while working in the different capacities , financially last season we did not have the funds that most of the other clubs had and in the end that played a part in us going down to the NCEL , but I wish everyone there all the best with the rest of the season , this change will do them good .
I ' ve lived a dream , being able to manage and be in the dugout , I ' ve faced players I grew up watching and I am thankful to all those that contacted me after it was announced that I would be leaving , my phone for that 12 hours after I left didn ' t stop going off and every single message was really appreciated ."
Ashforth believed that the club doing well in the cup competitions early on may have led to him making the decision that it was the right time to leave :
" It is weird because if we had not done what we did by progressing in the competitions , then we would have had a couple more league games , this could have seen us get more points on the board , it might have led to us looking in a slightly stronger position then now , but you can not just look back at that but it feels like a case of what could have happened if this was the case for us ."
Now Ashforth is back without a club , he says he is open to going back into management if the chance suited him :
" I don ' t know what I will do next , if there is an opportunity and I think it would work well for me , then I am open to it , I won ' t rush into anything , now I can reflect on my time at the club and all that has happened , I learnt some good lessons from my time there and I am grateful to
have been given the chance in the first place ."
The club meanwhile released a statement after it was formally announced that Ashforth would indeed be leaving the club and they thanked him for his services and what he had done with the club : " We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Lee for his time at the club as both player and manager , all his hard work and to wish him all the best for the future ."
For Railway it is clear that the ambition is there to go back to where they were and they hope that they can achieve this in the very near future in this strong division though they know that it will be tough to be able to do this but they will hope the new person in charge can achieve the ultimate aim .
