WWII - The Boy Thief?!
In The Book Thief, the setting is Nazi Germany, during World War II. Both the fact that Jewish people had no rights, as well as the drafting effort were strong ideas in the novel, and succumbed to many events. Firstly, The Hubermanns took in a Jewish man and risked their lives for him, putting him before themselves even though his rights were not important according to everyone else. Also, during this time, Hans Hubermann gets accused of "Jew loving" and is then forced into work in the war effort. He gets placed at one of the most dangerous jobs there possibly is, when there is no proof about any of his actions.
