75% of Boohoo's products are made in the UK

compared to the 25% Made in China...

WHY?

Clearly, it has really gained the business

extreme sucess. Being announced 'Best

Online Retailer' was a huge achievement.

Boohoo have many reasons as to why they do this; firstly it is a lot cheaper to use road transport as the distance is a lot shorter in comparison to air flight or train. The price is also cheaper because China is no longer a low cost country as labour costs have increased. This means Boohoo can spend more money on other things such as the amount they spend on stock and getting the product to the customer’s door as quick as possible (additional delivery options.) As well as this, manufacturing their products in the UK also means that the staff are able to communicate easier between steps of the distribution channel. This is due to all having the same time zones making the process extremely easier when working and recruiting staff that speak the same language is also less of a challenge when explaining the exact product that Boohoo want. Furthermore, manufacturing in the UK means that responding to the retailer’s demand of product can be reacted to quickly. For example, an on trend item of clothing can be made and shipped in less than 4 weeks whereas other companies will take longer to keep up with the trends as their process takes longer. Consumers are always wanting top quality products which British manufactures are known for. Having ‘Made in Britain’ on 75% of their clothing can cause an attraction to their brand.

Customers are also reassured that the products their buying are ethical and labour costs are not as small as an average worker in China. Boohoo has also contributed to the country’s GDP as more money is coming into the country and more jobs are being created for manufacturers and delivery drivers, alternatively meaning that the business are economic.
